Zoher Ghogawala, MD, is leading a three-year study at 10 U.S. medical centers to compare three different surgical techniques to treat cervical spondolytic myelopathy and will create a national outcomes registry to serve as a guide for surgeons performing CSM procedures, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Dr. Ghogawala is a neurosurgeon and co-director of the Comparative Research Effectiveness Center at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Mass.

The investigators have received funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute as well as the National Institutes of Health and a private foundation.

“In spine care, we are faced with a lot of people suffering and desperate for treatment, but there is a lack of information about what the best option is based on their specific symptoms and diagnosis,” said Dr. Ghogawala to the Wall Street Journal.
