The AxiaLIF procedure is a minimally invasive spinal fusion of the L5-S1 joint.

Here are seven highlights from his talk:

1. Dr. Tobler commented the AxiaLIF allows protection of all the spine’s stabilizing elements during lumbar fusion.

2. He noted the device’s small footprint, as well as its ability to shorten operating room time.

3. Once in the disc space, a unique advantage involves “access to be able to remove pretty much most of the central portion of the disc,” said Dr. Tobler. This allows for immediate and sturdy fixation for patients with unstable spines.

4. Surgeons must dedicate time to understand the approach and technique to perform successful AxiaLIF procedures. “It’s a unique operation with a unique approach and unique characteristics,” said Dr. Tobler in the video.

5. The AxiaLIF approach is the sole FDA-approved spinal fusion surgery using the presacral approach.

6. The procedure has a 94 percent fusion rate at the L5-S1 joint.

7. With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Tobler performs minimally invasive spine surgery, specifically outpatient minimally invasive lumbar spine fusion and minimally invasive deformity correction.
