Dr. William Tobler performs 1st single-position lateral fusion in Ohio ASC

William Tobler, MD, performed the first single-position lateral interbody fusion in an ASC at Cincinnati-based Mayfield Spine Surgery Center, using Medtronic devices.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Tobler used a Medtronic O-Arm and imaging technology to place posterior screws while the patient was in a lateral position.

2. Because of that innovation, he was able to eliminate the risk of repositioning the patient and reduce operating room time. The reductions also allowed him to reduce how long the patient was under anesthesia, decreasing recovery time.

3. Dr. Tobler has been at Mayfield Brain & Spine since 1985. He is the chairman of the surgery center’s board of managers and also served as a past president and medical director.
