Todd Alamin, MD, Empirical Spine’s co-founder, performed the first two commercial cases using the LimiFlex dynamic sagittal tether, according to a May 19 news release.
The cases were performed at Stanford (Calif.) Medical Center to address Grade I lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis with stenosis. In a clinical trial, LimiFlex procedures were shorter than spinal fusion and supported in outpatient settings.
The motion-preserving system earned the FDA’s premarket approval in February. Empirical Spine has started a limited U.S. market release, and broader expansion is expected throughout the year.
