Roger Härtl, MD, earned the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, he said in a May 27 LinkedIn post.
The honor recognizes immigrants who “have shown an outstanding commitment to serving our nation either professionally, culturally or civically, among other criteria,” according to the Ellis Honors website.
“This recognition means a great deal to me, and I am grateful to everyone who made it possible,” he said in the post. “To Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian, and my colleagues at Och Spine — thank you for your partnership and for creating an environment where this work can thrive. To my patients, who place their trust in me every day — you are the reason for all of it. And to my many supporters, friends, and family — your encouragement has carried me through every step.”
Dr. Härtl is from Germany, and he earned his medical degree at Ludwig-Maximillians University in Munich.
