After an MRI showed Mr. Manning’s disc pushing against a nerve, he opted for surgical treatment. The surgery was minor, and he is expected to recover in six to eight weeks. Mr. Manning first experienced pain associated with the injury during a workout, and he has previously undergone a similar surgery in his cervical spine.

Dr. Fessler performed Mr. Manning’s first spine surgery as well, which occurred in 2010.
