Dr. René Castelein named incoming editor-in-chief of Spine Deformity Journal

René Castelein, MD, PhD, will be the next editor-in-chief of Spine Deformity Journal, starting Jan. 1, 2026, according to the Scoliosis Research Society. 

Dr. Castelein has been involved with the SRS for more than 20 years and did a fellowship with one of the organization’s founders, G. Dean MacEwan, MD, according to a Feb. 19 news release. During his career, he published more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, and 150 of those focus on scoliosis.

Dr. Castelien will work alongside current editor-in-chief John Lonstein, MD, before assuming his role.
