The surgery was performed at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where Dr. Fye is the director of the division of spine surgery and co-director of the division of orthopedic spine trauma. Dr. DeMeo is the chairman of the West Penn Allegheny Health System Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Institute in Pittsburgh, as well as the medical director for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Gov. Corbett decided to undergo surgery after reporting persistent back and leg pain, according to a story published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The surgery took approximately 90 minutes. The governor will undergo a four to six week rehabilitation program to recover from surgery.
