Dr. Luis Tumialan speaks on benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery: 4 things to know

Neurosurgeon Luis Tumialan, MD, of Phoenix-based Barrow Brain and Spine, spoke about the benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery during an ABC 15 segment, according to ABC 15.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. About 95 percent of the surgeries Dr. Tumialan performs include minimally invasive techniques.

 

2. He noted minimally invasive surgery shortens operation time and recovery time.

 

3. Due to the smaller incision associated with minimally invasive surgery, patients experience less trauma and a reduced risk of infection.

 

4. Dr. Tumialan completed his neurosurgery residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
