Jonathan Poggi, MD, performed spine surgery on Ryan Lasko, an outfield prospect for the Athletics, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, according to a July 1 report from mlb.com.
During a game on July 1, Mr. Lasko collided with a teammate. Dr. Poggi completed a spinal decompression and stabilization surgery due to a C6-C7 vertebral fracture.
Dr. Poggi said Mr. Lasko is in stable condition and added that he is hopeful Mr. Lasko will eventually regain feeling in the lower half of his body.
Dr. Poggi is a neurosurgeon who specializes in complex and minimally invasive procedures, including carotid endarterectomy, microsurgical aneurysm clipping and vascular reconstruction, transcarotid artery revascularization and decompression surgery for Chiari malformation.
