Dr. Jonathan Hyde performs Florida community hospital’s 1st AR spine surgeries

Spine surgeon Jonathan Hyde, MD, has completed the first two augmented reality-assisted spine surgeries at Aventura (Fla.) Hospital and Medical Center, South Florida Hospital News reported Nov. 2.

Three things to know:

1. Chicago-based startup Augmedics’ Xvision Spine System is the first AR spine surgical platform to receive FDA approval. The FDA cleared the device for use in December 2019.

2. The platform is approved for both open and minimally invasive spine surgery and features a headset designed to function as if the surgeon has X-ray vision into the patient’s anatomy.  

3. Dr. Hyde is a minimally invasive spine specialist, with particular expertise in extreme lateral interbody fusion and AxiaLIF techniques.
