Dr. Howard An Receives Kappa Delta Award for Spine Biologics Research

Howard An, MD, director of spine surgery and the spine fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, recently received the Kappa Delta Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, according to a Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush news release.

Dr. An received the award for his paper titled “Intervertebral Disc Repair or Regeneration by Growth Factor and/or Cytokine Inhibitor Protein Injection.” He and his colleagues at Rush have researched disc degeneration, facet joint osteoarthritis, lumbar spinal stenosis and degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis to understand the relationship between intervertebral disc degeneration and low back pain.

The FDA recently approved clinical trials of compounds created through this research.
