Dr. Edward Dohring earns HonorHealth lifetime achievement award

Edward Dohring, MD, founder of Scottsdale-based Spine Institute of Arizona, earned the 2026 HonorHealth President Lifetime Achievement Award.

HonorHealth’s President Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes physicians for their expertise, commitment, collaboration and compassion, and nominations are submitted from folks across the organization. Dr. Dohring was chosen among 357 nominees, according to an April 6 news release.

“Dr. Edward Dohring epitomizes the best of medicine,” William Mitchell, MD, president of the North American Spine Society, said in the release. “He has dedicated his life to the field of spinal surgery and provided all patients optimal and compassionate care. He has helped shape spine surgery today through his local and national efforts. Furthermore, he has mentored and trained numerous providers who will carry forward his legacy. The world and field of medicine, especially spine care, is a better place thanks to his contributions.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Dohring has worked as a clinical associate professor at the University of Arizona, trained more than 30 spine fellows and has been recognized as a “Top Doc” by Phoenix Magazine for seven consecutive years. He also served as president of NASS from 2021 to 2022.

Dr. Dohring is also an early adopter of artificial disc replacement and minimally invasive spine surgery. He was also founder, officer and initial board member of the HonorHealth Orthopedic Co-Management Organization.

Outside his clinical work he has provided care in underserved communities across Ghana, Kenya, Haiti and Nepal through volunteer medical work.
