Daniel Choi, MD, performed the first Barricaid annular closure implantation with an endoscopic approach, Intrinsic Therapeutics said June 26.
Dr. Choi used Amplify Surgical’s dualPortal system for the surgery and performed the case at Gramercy Surgery Center in New York City, according to a news release.
“This novel endoscopic approach to spine surgery enabled direct visualization during the discectomy and implantation of Barricaid,” Dr. Choi said in the release. “I am grateful the two technologies allow for harmonious integration and see this as the next advancement in patient care.”
Barricaid has been used in more than 12,000 patients and is designed to prevent reherniation and reoperation in patients with large annular defects after lumbar discectomy.
