Daniel Choi, MD, of Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island in Ronkonkoma, N.Y., became the first surgeon to use Medtronic’s O-arm system at West Islip, N.Y.-based Good Samaritan University Hospital.
The O-arm was used for a minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion on Feb. 23, according to a March 17 news release. The procedure was done at the L5-S1 level, integrated with the O-arm and Medtronic’s StealthStation navigation.
Dr. Choi was assisted by Justin Ledesma, MD, who also works at Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island.
The O-arm provides intraoperative 2D and 3D imaging to support surgeons in real time.
“With intraoperative 3D navigation, I’m able to confirm accuracy in real time during minimally invasive lumbar fusion procedures,” Dr. Choi said in the release. “That precision matters because it directly supports safer surgery and better outcomes for my patients.”
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
