Neurosurgeon Chris Talbot, DO, successfully completed the first endoscopic spine surgery at AdventHealth Avista in Louisville, Colo.
Dr. Talbot utilized a 4K ultra high-definition endoscopic system to treat compressed nerves or herniated discs, according to an Oct. 29 news release from AdventHealth.
During his fellowship at Emory University, Dr. Talbot participated in more than 40 cases across the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine.
In addition, the AdventHealth Avista’s staff underwent specialized training in equipment setup, monitored anesthesia protocols and same-day discharge pathways to prepare for bringing endoscopic spine surgery to the hospital.
The procedure reduces postoperative pain, recovery time in the hospital and infection risk, the release said.
At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
