Dr. Ben Carson earns Senate committee endorsement for housing secretary: 4 things to know

The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs approved Ben Carson, MD, for the position of Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary, as reported by Reuters.

1. The Senate committee endorsed Dr. Carson on Jan. 24, 2017.

 

2. With the committee’s approval, the Senate will now hold a vote on Dr. Carson’s appointment.

 

3. The retired neurosurgeon committed to keeping a keen eye on conflicts of interest between the HUD and properties held by President Donald Trump’s real estate business.

 

4. During a Jan. 12, 2017 hearing, Dr. Carson said he is “fit” to head HUD during, as reported by Reuters.
