Dr. Alvin Crawford awarded honorary degree from Greek university: 5 key notes

Alvin H. Crawford, MD, was awarded an Honorary Professor degree from the University of Ioannina in Greece, according to an AAOS NOW report.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Crawford:

1. He is the retired director of the Crawford Spine Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

2. Dr. Crawford joined Cincinnati Children’s in 1977 as director of orthopedic surgery.

3. When he stepped down as chief after 29 years, he was awarded endowed chairs in pediatric orthopedics and spine surgery, according to the report.

4. He is the only surgeon named a Top 10 Educator in the first 100 years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

5. Dr. Crawford was the first African-American president of the Scoliosis Research Society.
