Norwich, Conn.-based Backus Hospital has earned a gold seal of approval from The Joint Commission for spine surgery, according to a May 6 report from The Bulletin.

The certification is part of a collaboration between the commission and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons to recognize organizations for their evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.

The commission reviews all aspects of the patient care process, collecting data on patient infection rates, neurological deficits, unplanned follow-up visits and pre- and post-operative patient-reported outcomes.

Backus underwent an onsite inspection to earn the recognition, according to the report.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 18–20 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
