During the CNS annual meeting in October, the society will host a Controversy Session, a debate on the issue of methylprednisolone as an initial response to spinal cord injuries.
R. John Hurlbert, MD, will argue for the new recommendation, while Michael G. Fehlings, MD, will argue for the judicial use of steroids in certain cases.
Dr. Hurlbert is the founding president of the Canadian Spine Society and currently practices in the University of Calgary department of clinical neurosciences.
Dr. Fehlings currently holds several leadership positions including the Krembil Chair in Neural Repair and Regeneration at the University of Toronto and director of the spinal program at Toronto Western Hospital.
