Here are five things to know:
1. The program gives young neurosurgeons-in-training a voice in CNS.
2. Krystal Tomei, MD, is the resident committee chair and sprearheaded the initative.
3. There are 36 residents selected to participate in the program and serve on seven different committees: Development, International, CNS University, Resident, CNS Quarterly, Fellowship and SANS.
4. The residents serve for two-year, renewable terms.
5. The Leadership Fellows will also participate in CNS committee activities, including their respective committee meetings.
“In talking to residents, there is a lot of interest in getting involved,” said Dr. Tomei. “I was involved early in my training and it gave me a greater appreciation of the volunteer time that is committeed on behalf of all leaders in the field of neurosurgery. The participation allows them to give back to their field as well.”
