CMS Proposed Rule Drops Neurosurgical Reimbursement 1%

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released its proposed physician payment rule, which cuts neurosurgery reimbursement by 1 percent in 2013, according to a North American Spine Society blog report.

Other specialties will also experience a drop in reimbursement if the rule is enacted, including 3 percent cuts for anesthesiology and 1 percent cuts for orthopedic surgery. Family and primary care physicians will see reimbursement between 3 percent and 5 percent.

However, the cuts may not occur if Congress intervenes before the end of the year.
