NuVasive was funding four medical research projects led by Dr. Taylor. The medical device company provided $16,821 for one project, while the three other projects were funded with an undisclosed amount. Dr. Taylor told the FPPC that he did not intend to keep the information a secret and did not mean to leave out information about his NuVasive income on his state-mandated statements of economic interest, according to the report.

Dr. Taylor tried to rectify the situation by discontinuing two projects. The FPPC fined Dr. Taylor $12,000.
