Aurora Spine launched its Dexa-L anterior lumbar interbody fusion device, the medtech company said Sept. 17.
Daniel Barba, MD, performed the first U.S. case using Dexa-L, according to a news release. The standalone device is a bone-mimicking structural implant.
“Each of my patients are unique,” Dr. Barba said. “I build a tailored surgical plan for every patient. Now I can use a standalone ALIF cage tailored specifically to their needs … This has enabled me to expand my indications for lumbar fusion within patients that would normally not be a good candidate due to their poor bone quality. We don’t accept one size fits all in today’s society, we as spine surgeons shouldn’t either.”
Dexa-L is part of Aurora Spine’s Dexa platform which uses bone density matching for implants.
