This is the third Atrium Health hospital to earn a surgery designation from The Joint Commission, and the facility is one of just 23 in the country to have a Gold Seal in spine surgery, according to a July 18 news release from the health system.
Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte was certified in 2021 and recertified in 2023, and Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, N.C., earned the designation in 2022.
To earn the designation, teams with Atrium Health Pineville and Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates underwent a two-day, in-person site visit. Atrium and CNSA began partnering on spinal care in 2021.
The assessment reviewed all Atrium employees involved in the care process, looking at pre-op, the operating room, post-anesthesia and rehabilitation, the release said.
Atrium Health is based in Charlotte.
To maintain the certification, hospitals must submit quarterly data and progress reviews and undergo a full review of services every two years to ensure compliance measures are being met.
