Austin-based Ascension Seton added custom-fabricated, patient-specific spinal implants for complex spine reconstruction, according to a June 10 news release.
Rory Mayer, MD, and Alex Cruz, MD, at Ascension Texas Spine and Scoliosis, use high-resolution imaging data to design implants matched to an individual patient’s spinal anatomy. The approach replaces the standard-sized, off-the-shelf interbody devices.
They offer the implants using minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce disruption to surrounding muscle and tissue. This can improve structural stability, promote more reliable bone fusion and shorten recovery times compared to conventional approaches.
