Here are five things to note:
1. The institute will treat brain disease, focusing on maintaining brain health from infancy.
2. George Jallo, MD, serves as director of the new institute.
3. Dr. Jallo previously worked at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore as a professor of neurosurgery, pediatrics and oncology. He also headed the pediatric neurosurgery division.
4. Experienced in minimally invasive keyhole surgery on children, Dr. Jallo also treats rare brain stem and spinal cord tumors.
5. All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine offers neurology, epileptology, neuro-oncology, neuroradiology, behavioral medicine, rehabilitative medicine, neuropathology, neuropsychiatry, psychiatry and neuropsychology programs.
“The formation of the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Institute for Brain Protection Sciences combines the power of clinicians, researchers and educators, creating a comprehensive program to care for children with injuries or illness that can affect the brain,” said Jonathan Ellen, MD, president and physician-in-chief of All Children’s Hospital and vice dean and professor of pediatrics with John Hopkins University.
