The study examined patients from across North America between the ages of 40 and 69, and those over 70.
The results showed that regardless of age, the group treated with only decompression scored lowest on a disability index six weeks after surgery, while the group treated with decompression and fusion scored lowest on the same index a year after surgery
The lack of difference in recovery times between the two groups based on age is beneficial for older patients, who can know that age does not have to influence their treatment choice for degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis
