AANS originally requested comment on the proposal in July and received an explanation from NCCI for the changes. The most recent letter disagrees with NCCI’s explanation and argues against the change, which pertains to CPT codes 22630 and 22633.
“Overall, we feel that considering code 63042 as an inclusive component of the column one coded procedure 22630 and 22633 would not represent the surgical services performed and severely undervalue the surgical work and intensity required for those who have had prior surgeries,” stated the letter.
