“MIS is where our future is,” said Dr. Lorio. “The whole goal of MIS is to avoid collateral damage, and that is where the value is at.”
Dr. Lorio provided a comparison of minimally invasive procedures and open spine surgery. Clinical outcomes between the two types of procedures are similar, except for “the infection rates are not the same,” said Dr. Lorio.
Dr. Lorio said overall minimally invasive procedures cost less than invasive procedures. He also noted radiation exposure is higher with minimally invasive procedures.
