LDR executive vice president sells $3.6 million in stock
LDR Executive Vice President Patrick Richard sold 151,000 shares of the company’s stock in an open market transaction. LDR announced its proposal for an initial public offering in September 2013 to raise $75 million. In April 2014, the company announced plans to raise an additional $25 million in a secondary public offering.

 

Dr. Drew Dossett performs spine surgery on Texas Rangers’ Prince Fielder
Drew Dossett, MD, is a spine surgeon at Carrell Clinic in Dallas and is a spine consultant for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars hockey team. He has completed a fellowship in spine surgery under Robert Watkins, MD, at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

Medical College of Wisconsin receives $1M for spinal cord injury research
The Medical College of Wisconsin received $1 million from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation Research and Development Division. Shekar Kurpad, MD, associate professor of neurosurgery, is principal investigator for the study team.

 

Cervical Spine Research Society names Dr. Bruce Darden 2014 president
Bruce V. Darden II, MD, is a partner at the OrthoCarolina Spine Center in Charlotte, N.C., and serves as director of the spine surgery fellowship at OrthoCarolina. He is also a member of North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Monica Wehby wins GOP senatorial primary
Neurosurgeon Monica Wehby, MD, emerged from Oregon GOP Senate primary race victorious and is preparing for November’s midterm elections. She is the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland and previously served as president of the Oregon Medical Association and Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland.

 

Study finds average length of stay for ACDF patients
The average length of stay was 2.0±2.5 days for patients after undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, according to the study, and factors associated with extended length of stay include history of nonspinal malignancy, history of pulmonary disease and procedures that included corpectomy.
