Southern Pain and Spine Specialists adds peripheral nerve stimulator

Spine

Matthews, N.C.-based Southern Pain and Spine Specialists leader Ammar Alamarie, MD, has finished training and certification to implement the Curonix freedom peripheral nerve stimulator for chronic pain treatment.

The training was conducted under the guidance of Curonix's Chief Medical Officer Andrea Trescot, MD, and brings a novel relief option to patients suffering from chronic pain, according to an Oct. 9 press release.

The new device is part of Southern Pain's ongoing effort to expand its range of pain management options.

About 20 percent of adults experience chronic pain, from arthritis to knee pain. Peripheral nerve stimulation is a drug-free method for relieving chronic pain that places tiny electrodes near peripheral nerves to disrupt pain signals.

The Curonix Freedom device is less invasive than other PNS systems, using wireless radio frequency technology for control and power, similar to modern cell phone charging.
