Joshua Marcus, MD, performed the first procedure with the Total Posterior Spine Surgery system at Nuvance Health Danbury (Conn.) Hospital.
The TOPS procedure is an alternative to spinal fusion for patients with stenosis, spondylolisthesis and related spine conditions. Dr. Marcus performed the state's first TOPS case in September, Danbury-based Nuvance Health said in an Oct. 5 news release.
His 61-year-old patient's leg pain was gone after the surgery, and he is recovering well about a month later, the release said.
