5 spine surgeons making news



Here are five spine surgeons making headlines this past week:

Spine surgeon Ali Baaj, MD, became the inaugural chief of spine surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix on Oct. 1.

Michael Janssen, DO, founder of the Center for Spine and Orthopedics in Denver, is opening a spine clinic in Saratoga, Fla.

Rahul Shah, MD, is performing anterior cervical discectomy and fusions on patients with multiple damaged discs as part of the Fuse clinical trial.

Spine surgeon Reginald Knight, MD, has been appointed senior vice president and chief physician executive for Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network.

Portland-based Maine Medical Partners announced a slew of new hires in November, including Bram Newman, MD, a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with a focus on spine and neurosurgery.
