5 notes on Kern Medical’s new neurological ICU

Kern Medical Center, in Bakersfield, Calif., opened a neurological intensive care unit, according to The Bakersfield Californian.

Here are five notes:

 

1. The neurological ICU treats patients with brain and spinal cord injuries as well as brain infections and neurological diseases.

 

2. Paid for by the Kern Medical Center Foundation, the ICU has two rooms.

 

3. Royce Johnson, MD, serves as chair of medicine, and Jan Eckermann, serves as chief of neurosurgery.

 

4. Nurses working in the ICU received specialized training in neurological disorders.

 

5. The only hospital in the country performing an automated lumbar draining experiment, Kern Medical offers the only trauma care center between Los Angeles and Fresno.
