Here are five key notes on the procedure:

1. Timothy Bassett, MD, of Northport Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala., performed the procedure on Oct. 21. The surgery was revising an L4-5 revision of a failed titanium cage and non-union in addition to an L5-S1 TLIF.

2. The EVOS-HA includes with HA-enhanced lumbar PEEK interbody technology. It’s impregnated, not just coated, with HA.

3. The technology is designed to encourage bone growth as well as the strength and versatility of PEEK-OPTIMA Natural.

4. Cutting Edge Spine is setting up its distribution network throughout the United States.

5. The technology was officially launched at the NASS 2015 Annual Meeting earlier this month.

“The improved modulus, in addition to the ability for bone on-growth to the implant makes it an ideal material for biologic fusion,” said Dr. Bassett.
