Dr. James Lin leads Mount Sinai study on adult idiopathic scoliosis

Spine surgeon James Lin, MD, of New York City-based Mount Sinai Hospital has spearheaded a study that looks to provide a more reliable classification system for adult idiopathic scoliosis.

Three things to know:

1. Published Aug. 3 in Spine Deformity, the study developed a three-component radiographic adult idiopathic scoliosis classification that extends the Lenke AIS classification to adults.

2. While the Lenke AIS classification system is well established, it is not applicable to adults.

3. The new method aims to help clinicians and researchers improve communication about the condition, refine treatment and better understand and analyze patient outcomes.
