Dr. Sander Connolly Jr. to lead neurosurgery department at NY medical center, school

Neurosurgeon E. Sander Connolly Jr., MD, was appointed chair of the department of neurological surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, according to a July 30 news release.

Dr. Connolly succeeds Robert Solomon, MD, who has held the position since 1997.

He will also act as neurosurgeon-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. Connolly specializes in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, carotid stenosis, moyamoya and cerebral hemorrhages, among other conditions. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, his research primarily focuses on the effects of inflammation in the brain after a stroke.

He is past-president of the Neurosurgical Society of America and editor-in-chief of Operative Neurosurgery.
