Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics welcomed Alan Daniels, MD, as chief of its spine surgery division May 28.
Dr. Daniels had been serving as interim chief since his predecessor Mark Palumbo, MD, died in September.
Dr. Daniels also is chief of adult spinal deformity service at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, as well as director of spine surgery research at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, all based in Providence.
Dr. Daniels specializes in the treatment of complex spinal disorders and completed his orthopedic residency and two spine surgery fellowships with University Orthopedics.
He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, 225 national and international research presentations and edited four orthopedic textbooks.
Dr. Daniels' professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Lumbar Spine Research Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.
