Question: What are trends taking over the spine and pain management industries?
Dr. Harel Deutsch: Here are four trends:
• Outpatient spine surgery as new Medicare codes allow for many patients to be eligible for outpatient spine surgery in surgery centers
• Hybrid spine surgeries such as coflex that can be done in outpatient settings
• Spinal cord stimulation
• Hospitals, health systems and physicians can also form partnerships with surgical centers and other surgeons to stay current on trends and technologies.
Q: What is the next new idea you foresee in the spine industry?
HD: Robotic surgery. Several companies such as Medtronic and Globus Medical already have devices developed.
