4 points on new biorobotic device controlling bladder in SCI patients

United Kingdom-based University of Cambridge Professor James Fawcett, PhD, is creating a device to control bladder in spinal cord injury patients, according to Medical Xpress.

Here are four points:

 

1. Dr. Fawcett’s device is based on the Brindley device, which involves a stimulated implant that allows the bladder to empty itself.

 

2. His device is biorobotic, which will read pelvis sensory nerve signals.

 

3. The signals would prohibit the bladder from randomly emptying and inform patients of their bladder amount.

 

4. The researchers have tested the device in about 50 dogs.
