3 things to note about Penn State’s brain repair presentation

Gong Chen, PhD, a biology professor and the Verne M. Willaman Chair in Life Sciences at State College-based Pennsylvania State University, will speak on brain injury treatment on Jan. 30, according to Penn State News.

Here are three things to note:

 

1. Dr. Chen and his team have found a new way to repair scarred brain tissues.

 

2. The repair process involves using an in vivo reprogramming technology to convert reactive glial cells into functional neurons.

 

3. He is working to create medicines that could help patients with lost brain functions due to a spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.
