Neurologists in the U.S. earn an average of $343,000 annually, according to Medscape’s 2024 “Neurologist Compensation Report,” published May 24.

Here are eight more statistics to know on neurologist compensation in 2024, per the report: 

1. Forty-nine percent of neurologists say that compensation was a factor when choosing their practice specialty. 

2. The majority of neurologists (56%) believe that physicians in the U.S. are underpaid. 

3. The majority of neurologists (60%) believe that they are fairly compensated when considering work demands. 

4. Neurologists saw a 10% increase in pay in 2024. 

5. Only 40% of neurologists take on side gigs outside their key roles. 

6. Neurology is tied with oncology for the fourth happiest specialty when it comes to compensation. 

7. About 74% of neurologists are not impacted at all by competing physician practices. 

8. Around 65% of neurologists are eligible for compensation bonuses.
