Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Joe Jiménez had surgery to correct a lumbar spine strain after a September injury, David O’Brien, a reporter for The Athletic, tweeted reported Feb. 15. He is currently throwing in spring training and is expected to be ready for opening day.

Meanwhile, Detroit Tigers pitcher Casey Mize, who is recovering from a Tommy John surgery he underwent in June, said he had an additional surgery performed on his back, mlb.com reported Feb. 15. He did not specify the type of back surgery, though he said it addressed an issue that existed prior to his elbow injury.

“We had a unique opportunity with me having the Tommy John surgery to go ahead and tackle this, because there was available time for it to be done,” Mr. Mize said in the report. “So we decided if we’re going to focus on getting better, get everything better.”

The MLB did not immediately respond to Becker’s request for comment.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
