Dr. Schuler is the CEO and founder of Virginia Spine Institute. He founded the practice in 1992 and grew the group into an award-winning medical practice over the past two decades. Dr. Schuler is credited with performing the first hybrid multi-level cervical disc replacement with fusion in the country and serves as president of the Spinal Research Foundation.


Dr. Schuler led the practice to receive awards for community service and was recognized as a "Best Place to Work" from Washington Business Journal and Washingtonian Magazine. He has served as a spinal surgeon for the Washington Redskins. His additional interests include robotic-assisted spine surgery. 


Dr. Schuler earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. His additional training includes a fellowship in spine surgery at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
