PEO-200712-FSM6983Richard Fessler, MD, PhD (Rush University Medical Center, Chicago). Dr. Fessler is a board-certified spine surgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery. He is a pioneer in the field and made significant contributions to endoscopic and microendoscopic surgical developments. He previously served as a clinician at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.


Dr. Fessler participated in the first FDA trial testing the use of embryonic stem cells in patients with thoracic spine injuries. Throughout his career, he authored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and 50 book chapters. He's been a guest of honor at neurosurgical societies in Japan, Mexico, Egypt, South Africa and China. His current research interests include developing innovative methods to repair spinal cord injuries.


He has a consulting contract with Lanx, where he serves on the scientific advisory board.


Dr. Fessler earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in neurosurgery and additional research fellowships.
