Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Vedat Deviren of UCSF Spine Center

Vedat Deviren, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at University of California San Francisco Spine Center. He is also an assistant clinical professor orthopedic surgery at UCSF. He is one of the most experienced surgeons in the world in extreme lateral interbody fusion, and he has completed over 200 XLIF procedures and has trained over 100 surgeons in the procedure. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Deviren focuses on in the treatment of spinal disorders in children and adults. His areas of expertise include cervical disc herniation, cervical stenosis, kyphosis, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar stenosis, scoliosis, spinal cord tumor, spine trauma, spondylolisthesis and thoracic disc herniation. His research interests include outcomes of spine surgery, minimally invasive surgery, development of advanced techniques, spinal biomechanics and instrumentation of spine. He has published numerous articles on spinal disorders and their surgical outcomes.

 

Dr. Deviren has completed postgraduate theoretical and practical courses in orthopedics and traumatology at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He also had training in spine surgery as a clinical and research fellow at UCSF.
