Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Todd J. Albert of Hospital for Special Surgery

Todd J. Albert, MD, is a spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He also serves as the hospital’s surgeon in chief and medical director.

Specializing in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of spinal disorders, Dr. Albert is an expert in minimally invasive surgery, motion preserving surgeries and traumatic injuries of the cervical and lumbar spine.

 

Dr. Albert’s interests include the cervical spine, cervical deformity, lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spondylolisthesis. He is specifically interested in researching early indicators for surgical intervention, comparing the effects of different surgical techniques and developing interventions to prevent and reduce surgical

complications.

 

Dr. Albert previously served as the president of Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute.

 

After earning his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Dr. Albert completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Albert is also fellowship trained in spine surgery from the Minnesota Spine Center in

Minneapolis.
