Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Thomas Schuler of Virginia Spine Institute

Thomas C. Schuler, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon, founder and CEO of Reston, Va.-based Virginia Spine Institute.

Dr. Schuler founded Virginia Spine Institute in 1992 and is president of the Spinal Research Foundation, where he promotes spine surgery alternatives such as regenerative therapy. He is a longtime spine consultant to the NFL’s Washington Redskins and is a fellow of the American College of Spine Surgery, American College of Surgeons and the American College of Orthopaedic Surgery.

 

Dr. Schuler graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine before completing his orthopedic surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., and his spinal surgery fellowship at Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
