Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Steven Poletti of Southeastern Spine Institute

Steven C. Poletti, MD, practices with Southeastern Spine Institute in Charleston, S.C., and is on the teaching staff of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He has hospital appointments with Roper Hospital in Charleston and East Cooper Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He has served as president of both the South Carolina Spine Society and South Carolina Orthopedic Association.

Dr. Poletti is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Piedmont Orthopedic Society. He is board certified and his clinical interests include back injuries, bone transplantation, cervical herniated discs, cervical spine disorders, lumbar degenerative disc disease, lumbar spinal stenosis and spinal deformity. He also has a professional interest in developing spinal devices. He collaborated with Donald R. Johnson II, MD, to develop the minimally invasive Globus Percutaneous spine fixation system.

 

Dr. Poletti earned his medical degree at the University of California in Irvine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. He has also completed a fellowship with Dallas Spine Group.
